چکیده
The hand-foot syndrome (HFS) is an erythematous skin lesion of the palma and planta of the hand and feet is most often caused by cytostatic chemotherapy. The impact on the patients' quality of life depends on the extent of the disease. The pathogenesis of the hand-foot syndrome has not yet been sufficiently clarified and it can only be treated symptomatically. We performed an extensive literature search in Medline to evaluate the current state of knowledge concerning the hand-foot syndrome and conclude with practical advice to physicians treating patients with hand-foot syndrome.

Palmar-Plantar Erythrodysesthesia Associated with Chemotherapy and Its Treatment
Palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE), also called hand-foot syndrome, is a relatively common dermatologic toxic reaction associated with cytotoxic chemotherapy that can limit the use of such drugs. Definitive prevention and treatment strategies for PPE have not yet been established. We present a patient with recurrent ovarian cancer developing severe hand-foot syndrome after treatment with p...
متن کاملPrevention of palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia with an antiperspirant in breast cancer patients treated with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin (SAKK 92/08).
BACKGROUND Elevated concentrations of doxorubicin are found in eccrine sweat glands of the palms and soles. We therefore evaluated an antiperspirant as preventive treatment for palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (hand-foot syndrome) in patients with metastatic breast cancer treated with pegylated liposomal doxorubicin. PATIENTS AND METHODS An antiperspirant containing aluminum chlorohydrate or...
متن کاملHand Foot Syndrome Secondary to Low Dose Docetaxel.
Hand-foot syndrome (palmoplantar erythrodysesthesia or Burgdorf reaction), is a distinctive skin toxicity affecting the palms and soles after certain chemotherapeutic drugs. Docetaxel induced hand-foot syndrome is rare, dose-dependent adverse event. Here in we report a case of Docetaxel induced grade III hand-foot syndrome at low doses (75/m(2)).

Chemotherapy induced dermatological adverse effects are generalized rashes e.g. the rashes characterized of erythema multiforme and toxic epidermal necrolysis. Site-specific localized toxicity such as stomatitis, alopecia, extravasation reactions, nail disorders, or hand-foot syndrome (Wyatt, 2006). Oxaliplatin and 5 Fluorouracil are frequently associated with hand and foot syndrome and hyperse...
متن کاملPazopanib Induced Hand-Foot Syndrome in a Patient Previously Treated with Sunitinib: A Possible Cumulative Skin Toxicity?
Hand-foot syndrome (HFS), also known as palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia, is a skin toxicity that could be observed during target therapies such as with tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKI). It usually develops within the first 2 4 weeks of drug administration. We present a case of HFS induced by Pazopanib after 2 months of treatment, in patients previously treated with Sunitinib, suggesting a pos...
